Sir,
With reference to my despatch No. 209 of the 3rd August last relating to the proposed Admiralty Reserve of land at Black Rock Peak, in which I informed you that the land in question was claimed by certain Chinese under perpetual leases at rents previously paid to the Government of China, I have the honour to inform you that I have since caused the fullest enquiries to be made into the nature of these claims, and have ascertained that the land in question can only be acquired for Admiralty purposes at a very considerable sacrifice.
2. I annex hereto a copy of a Minute bearing on the subject by the Acting Land Officer, which shows that the sum of $1,230,000 is a rough estimate of the sum which...
